PACKAGING GUIDLINES
At AAA Couriers, we understand how important it is for your shipment to arrive safely, securely and in perfect condition.
Whether you're sending urgent, fragile, confidential or high-value consignments, correct packaging plays a vital role in ensuring your items are protected throughout transit across Hull, East Yorkshire and nationwide.
Below are our recommended packaging and shipping guidelines to help you prepare your items before collection or delivery.
External Packaging
Use the most suitable packaging materials for your goods.
For most shipments, a corrugated box provides strong protection — but if the box has been used multiple times, its strength decreases.
For heavy or high-value items, we recommend new double-walled cartons to prevent damage during transport.
Before sending, check the following:
- Is the box rigid and undamaged?
- Are the flaps intact and corners strong?
- Are all previous labels or markings removed?
If you're unsure, our Hull courier team can advise on the best packaging for your shipment before collection.
Secure Your Package
Use polypropylene or PVC box-sealing tape, at least 5cm wide, to secure your parcel.
Do not use masking tape, string or paper wrapping, as they do not provide adequate strength during transit.
Internal Packaging
Protect your items from movement and vibration using cushioning materials.
Fragile goods should be individually wrapped and separated by at least 5cm of protective padding from the outer box.
Common internal materials include:
- Bubble Wrap: multiple layers to protect edges and corners.
- Polyethylene Foam: ideal for soft or delicate items.
- Loose Fill / Polystyrene Chips: fill empty spaces in lightweight boxes.
- Engineered Foam: for specific products needing custom support.
- Foam-in-Place: expands inside packaging to create a moulded fit.
- Corrugated Paper Inserts: strengthen boxes and prevent collapse.
- Kraft Paper Wrapping: suitable for light to medium-weight, non-fragile goods.
Special Items

Pallets
- When shipping palletised goods:
- Use a stable, undamaged pallet suitable for your shipment.
- Band and shrink-wrap goods securely.
- Avoid overhanging items and ensure even weight distribution.
- Protect with materials such as cardboard, bubble wrap or foam sheets.
- Drain and plug containers before shipping to prevent leaks.
